President Lambert and VP Piatt Visit bridges

It was a nice surprise a couple of weeks ago when Dr. Connie Book called me to tell me that President Lambert would be visiting the bridges in NYC group! The students were so excited that he made time to come visit them and hear all about their job search and new life in NYC.

I can’t even being to describe how excited I am for the bridges program to kick-off in 2 days! Maggie Mullikin and I have been busy preparing for the students’ arrival Saturday. I can already tell this summer is going to be a lot of fun!

One of the bridges participants, Alexandra Johnston, created a cool sketch that I wanted to share.

The Student Professional Development Center Office of Career Services is launching a pilot program for summer 2012 designed for recent Elon graduates headed to Los Angeles and New York City to begin their careers.

The 9-week program, called bridges, provides affordable housing  and one-on-one mentoring with a career adviser to help students land the jobs they desire, negotiate their first contracts effectively and identify professional mentors in the city.

An on-site career adviser will be available over the 9-weeks to assist with the job and internship search, host activities to help students acclimate to the city and become part of their new community.
