It was a busy Saturday yesterday. Alumnus Brian O’Shea invited students over to his apartment on the Upper West Side for bagels and juice. He then showed us around Central Park.

Weekly Networking Event: Smoothies and Yoga

Created by: Ashley Pinney, bridges to NYC Coordinator

Each week throughout the summer the bridges students have a networking event with alumni from a variety of industries. While we all (including myself) have eaten our fair share of pizza, bagels, and gourmet cupcakes in this city, tonight we actually did something good for our bodies. We enjoyed healthy fruit smoothies from the popular Jamba Juice and then went to an hour-long yoga session led by a 2007 alumnus, Corey Loftus.

Visiting the East Village

Last night my students and I took the L across the island to the East Village. Two alumni of the 2012 bridges program, Laura Cella and Trevor Dunn, kindly offered to show us their studio apartment. They walked the students through their process of renting the apartment and some do’s and don’ts of Craigs List.

Congratulations, Kate and Brette!

A celebration is always in order when our students get a job or internship. I am happy to report that Kate Augustus landed a great position working as an elementary school teacher at the Brooklyn Ascend Charter School.

Also, Brette Baumhover is the new intern at All the Tastes of New York. She is recruiting restaurant participants for a food and wine festival in October that will take place at the Metropolitan Pavilion. She is also updating social media (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest) and writing articles about famous restaurants and their treats.

Great job, ladies!

The Daily Show

Image

I got tickets to the Daily Show taping last month and have been so excited to see the show ever since!  Sam and I lined up at 1:30 to wait to get a ticket and a number.  At 2:30, we got our tickets then had to return at 4:30 to line up to get inside. During the break we walked over to the NBC Store and looked at all the cool stuff they had.  We went through security and straight through the studio.  First they brought out a warm-up guy to make sure we were loud enough and once that was over there was a Q and A.  The show began and it went great- no re-shoots or anything!  All in all a great experience and best of all it cost nothing!
