I can’t even being to describe how excited I am for the bridges program to kick-off in 2 days! Maggie Mullikin and I have been busy preparing for the students’ arrival Saturday. I can already tell this summer is going to be a lot of fun!

One of the bridges participants, Alexandra Johnston, created a cool sketch that I wanted to share.

Elon University’s television channel, Phoenix 14, did a piece on bridges. Good job to Rebecca Smith who is featured in the piece!

Books for bridges

I bought 3 books for the bridges students that I thought would be useful for their life post-graduation. These are:

1) Gradspot.com’s Guide to Life After College by Chris Schonberger, Stuart Schultz, David Klein and Tory Hoen

2) The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke by Suze Orman

3)  Not For Tourists Guide to New York City: 2012

I am interested to see how they like (and use) these books.

bridges in NYC!

The Student Professional Development Center Office of Career Services is launching a pilot program for summer 2012 designed for recent Elon graduates headed to Los Angeles and New York City to begin their careers.

The 9-week program, called bridges, provides affordable housing  and one-on-one mentoring with a career adviser to help students land the jobs they desire, negotiate their first contracts effectively and identify professional mentors in the city.

An on-site career adviser will be available over the 9-weeks to assist with the job and internship search, host activities to help students acclimate to the city and become part of their new community.
